Yes Man is a crappy movie and also finished #1 at the box office this past weekend. I can’t say that I’m surprised since Jim Carrey is such a box office beast. Mr. Jenny McCarthy was fortunate that Will Smith’s Seven Pounds is apparently very bad as well. Even without a Big Willie Style Flop, you had to know that Yes Man would perform well. I’ve known about this movie since my brother sent me an email back in September:

Big names like Jim Carrey and promotion drive the box office these days. The window to make money at theaters is becoming smaller and smaller. The success of most wide releases depends on frontloading the promotion and thereby the revenue. There are very few movies that register any significant returns after the first 6-8 weeks. Warner Bros. must be on to something because they may break the domestic box office record of $1.75 billion. I guess that’s why I started seeing Yes Man posters in November. My friend John took advantage of one of their “viral marketing tools” to trash the movie:

It’s disheartening for me that Jim Carrey chose this movie to get “back in the saddle”. Recently, I watched part of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls on one of the superstations. I thought to myself, “This isn’t so bad… it’s even pretty funny.” I remember that I used to think that movie sucked… but compared to Jim Carrey’s latest it’s gold.

• The critics agree: Yes Man and Liar Liar are the same movie.
• Universal making “tens of millions” off of music videos on YouTube.  On the flip side, Warner removes music videos from YouTube.
• A few awesome pictures of Wrigley being prepared for the Winter Classic (Red Wings/Blackhawks): One Two Three
• Take-Two’s 2008 reports $11.1 million in costs related to Electronic Arts’ hostile takeover bid.  Huh?

• Nerd wants to protest Steve Jobs’ decision not to speak at Macworld. Loser.
• In case you didn’t realize, Somali pirates are fucking gangster.
• Most predictable spinoff of all time: Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House. Yes, it’s real.  Also, Steven Adler was just ordered back to rehab.
• Judge Dredd remake in the works.  Current suggestions for JD: The Rock, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel.
• NBC Kills Top Gear USA.  I think it could’ve been good.  Blame the economy.
• Ragging on Ben Silverman Has Gone Mainstream.  People love to copy my blog.  I guess DeadlineHollywood hated BS before me.
• David Beckham moves to AC Milan, admits American soccer isn’t the highest level.  Does he still own part of the Galaxy?
• Video games for old people.  Looks boring.
• MTV set to debut College Life.  Seems similar (identical?) to RJ Cutler’s Freshman Diaries.
• Burger King’s Flame body spray is apparently sold out.  WTF.

By now, almost everybody knows that Andy Dick is a little crazy. However, he confirmed this again by making a scene outside of a Buffalo Wild Wings. The short story is that he was peeing in the parking lot then decided to pull a teenage girl’s top down. The resulting search found other drugs in his possession.

The most shocking part of this story is that Andy Dick was at BUFFALO WILD WINGS. Shouldn’t he be doing drugs at a much nicer establishment? For some reason, I can’t help but picture this scene with trucker-people as the innocent bystanders. Also, can anybody explain to me why a performer would just whip it out? It says that Andy Dick has done this twice… K-Ci did it too. What gives?

Yesterday, I had my first of two (or more?) posts published on the Playboy Blog. Because I’m quite the looker, the editorial staff felt like throwing me a bone and linking the article on the front page with my picture along with it. I feel like a pseudo-celebrity but not quite at the level of the guy from Crazy Town on Celebrity Rehab. Too bad most people will think that my name is Mark Frazier if they don’t read the article (it is Playboy.com). My phone has been ringing off the hook… but that’s because I misplaced it and was trying to locate it by sound (too bad it was on vibrate). Other than that, it’s business as usual with Official Chris Duncan.

I’m sure everybody fucking hates that picture of me by now. I apologize.

While I’m riding high with the increased exposure of the Chris Duncan brand, I’m still not as “big” as Romeo Dev. I was linked to Romeo Dev yesterday by my co-worker Nikolai and then also saw his pictures on the screen of another co-worker. Nikolai linked me to FoxNews and Lisa was looking at the Daily Telegraph. I also saw that Romeo had a link to his Telegraph article on DrudgeReport. Drudge and FoxNews get around a million unique visitors a day. Romeo’s article appeared on The Daily Telegraph, Xinhua News, The Daily Mail, and was syndicated on local Fox News websites. He was also on blogs like Boing Boing and Best Week Ever. That’s a lot of eyeballs.

The man got a ridiculous amount of exposure for being a dwarf that also happens to be a bodybuilder. This guy is 50,000X more famous than I am and probably just as famous as Seth Binzer. I would have originally said that Romeo was twice as famous, but that was before I found out that he was in the only Martin Short movie I actually like… Clifford. I can’t really count Jungle 2 Jungle and I haven’t seen Three Amigos all the way through. You can look at the graph below that charts blog posts with Seth Binzer vs. Romeo Dev as topics. Obviously, Ice Rocket isn’t the best measuring stick, but it at least gives us part of the story. There’s no denying the spike that Romeo Dev has seen in the past few days. It’s hilarious to me that Romeo chooses to rock a Slim Shady-like hairdo. Two people that saw this for the first time instantly said that he was fake. I’ve been called a lot of nasty things — but nobody has ever claimed that I didn’t exist. Maybe he’s claymation.

Personally, I have a problem with the fact that many of the kids growing up (and those of us that are now avoiding adulthood) have top goals consisting of being rich or being famous. The problem with that is being rich and being famous are the results of accomplishment. You can’t “do” either of them. And you can ask Britney whether or not fame is as wonderful as those people would imagine. I’m not at the point where I have to worry about paparazzi though. I’m not even the most famous Duncan at Playboy. There are actually three Duncans in the New York office. The other two are Richard Duncan (who pointed out a typo in my Mark Frazier post) and Aaron Duncan, a bigwig in our licensing department. Aaron Duncan still has me beat in the playboy+duncan Google search. It’s going to be hard to climb above him since he’s actually worth writing about. But then again, all I do is make posts about myself.
